Government Official Says Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Personnel Advised to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the possible threats associated with Chinese cars, and personnel have been told to refrain from discussing classified information in any vehicles.

Security Guidance for MoD Personnel

During a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed claims that MoD staff have been told not to discuss secret material while riding in China-made cars.

He said that the MoD is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but noted that security is a issue in all modern vehicles.

Our department has a collection of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any vehicle, because of the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in all vehicle, to restrict those confidential conversations in protected areas. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, the minister responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Defence Context

The announcement comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off public transport and bring disruption to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship was reportedly directing laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

The broader security environment highlights the importance of strong protocols and vigilance in every aspects of official activities, from vehicle usage to communication practices.
